Audition is designed to do the things you do fast (you may just have to teach it a bit to get there). If you want ctrl+L to do that, assign that in the keyboard shortcuts editor. In the question What are the best DAWs Ableton Live is ranked 5th while Audacity is ranked 19th. Make a selection, right click and select Silence Time Selection in Clips (or something like that). When comparing Ableton Live vs Audacity, the Slant community recommends Ableton Live for most people. Silencing a clip in Audition doesn't require a trip to waveform. You may find that you can do new/better things with your editing without having to spend more time by switching to another editor. I also think the ceiling on Audacity is low, and it encourages people to stick to simplistic editing styles, because anything else gets really cumbersome. Pro-grade software is designed to be extremely efficient, and allows for an incredible amount of customization to get the tools you use for your workflow front-and-center.
